Understanding Mental Health in the Workplace

Overview

Cost: Free

Mental ill-health issues affect one in four people in Northern Ireland meaning that 25 per cent of employees in the average organisation will be affected by mental ill-health at some stage. Cited as one of the leading causes of absence from work, mental ill-health is not an issue that can be ignored. Employers have a duty of care and need to take action to create an environment of openness, where employees feel they can talk about their mental health, and support staff to become more resilient.

Attendees will learn about some of the causes of mental ill-health, and related issues such as depression, stress, anxiety and suicide. They will be provided with information on how to promote good mental health, and benefit from guidance on how to put strategies and policies in place to help mitigate the negative effect these issues can have on business.

Liz Kearns, HR Manager at Emerson will provide best practice examples on mental health in the workplace and the keynote address will be delivered by Dr Hugh Quigley.

This event is delivered as part of Mid Ulster Enterprise Week 2019.
