All UK employers have a legal responsibility to prevent illegal working by carrying out right to work (RTW) checks before employing staff. Conducting a compliant check provides you with a statutory excuse, which protects you from civil penalties if an employee is later found to be working illegally.

We are hosting a practical information event to help employers understand their responsibilities, stay compliant, and prepare for recent and upcoming changes to RTW guidance.

• How to complete a compliant check – how to carry out checks correctly to establish and maintain a statutory excuse, including when to use the Employer Checking Service
• Share codes – who can generate them, how long they are valid, and employer responsibilities
• Repeat checks – when follow-up checks are needed for time-limited permissions
• Compliance and enforcement – preventing illegal working, avoiding civil penalties, and maintaining good records
